Nokia ‘N97’ Phone Review

Nokia N97 is a touchscreen combined handset and "mobile computer" in the ‘N’ series of smartphones unveiled by the Finnish giant, with a fold-out QWERTY keyboard.

The handset was introduced on 2nd Dec 2008; and it is the second touchscreen model after the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. This model is powered with Symbian Operating System.

On 9 June 2009, Nokia rolled out ‘N97’ in US flagship stores and the handset was launched worldwide on 26th June 2009. In Sep 2009, there were reports that around two million N97 phones had been sold in just three months.

The new N97 comes loaded with Quick Office, Adobe reader, Ovi Maps, Boingo, JoikuSpot Premium and the Ovi store. The other features of the handset are as follows:

• It has 5MP camera with2592x1944 pixels, Carl Zeiss optics, autofocus, LCD flash and video light.
• N97 has 3.5 inch TFT touch screen with 16,777,216 colors.
• Wi-Fi 802.11b/g; USB; Bluetooth with A2DP; GPS with A-GPS
• It has internal storage of 32GB and 128 MB RAM.
• Tri-band HSDPA/quad-band GSM
• User can enjoy SMS, MMS, E-mail, Push mail, IM.
• N97 has audio & music player and is loaded with Stereo FM radio with RDS, Visual radio; FM transmitter.
• 117.2x55.3x15.9mm and just weights 150gm

Some of the main disadvantages of the new Nokia N97 handset are as under:-

• New N97 has poor ergonomic keywords design
• More tuning is required for touchscreen User Infrared
• Lack of smart dialing
• Absence of DivX or XviD support
• Navigational buttons are quite hard

In the Indian market, Nokia N97 is available at a price of Rs 31,100 or USD 639.92 approx.
